About Pag

Pag, both island and town, are well known in the world because of its many attractions. There are Pag lace, that is being sowed only in town of Pag for over 500 years, Pag cheese that is being produced on whole island and is famous for its specific taste. Pag is one of the Croatian islands with greatest number of beaches. Pag is also a city of salt that is being produced in local salt works. In gastronomy Pag can also offer famous lamb meat from Pag, baškotini (sweet biscuit made in local monastery), Pag cheese and lots of other Croatian meals.

The city of Pag is situated in a closed bay which means the sea temperature is always a bit higher than in surrounding places. On the island there is also a great number bike routes which enables You to both recreate and explore beauties of Pag. Cycling is best recommended in late spring and early summer because the the weather conditions are best for cycling.

During the main tourist season, in July and August, Pag has a lot to offer for everybody. Just 25 km from town of Pag there is Zrće, the most famous Croatian party-beach, famous for non-stop parties during the summer. Pag has a good bus connection with Zrće, especially by night.

If You prefer more the cultural events there is Pag Art Festival, the manifestation that usually takes place in first two weeks of August. There You can enjoy some classical music performed in ambient of St. Frane church. Also, every year there are some traditional events in Pag, such as Pag summer carnival in the last weekend of July. Pag carnival is special because that is the only time one can hear (and dance) traditional carnival dance of Pag. On August 15th, on Asumption of Mary, there is a procession from the old town of Pag towards the today’s Pag and the statue of Mary is beeing carried from old church to new one.

Because of Pag’s geographical position it is also great starting point for several short trips to visit many famous Croatian atractions. In short time one can get to Plitvice lakes National park, National park Krka and Kornati. The nearest town is Zadar where one can see famous sea organ and installation “Greeting to the Sun”.
